Jesus' Team

Alex and I were driving home the other night, and he says, out of the blue, “Mom, Christmas isn’t about the presents, huh? It’s about love. And Jesus.”

Then he proceeded to talk about it for many minutes. “I don’t like the presents. They’re not my favorite. Jesus is my favorite! And love!”

After a few minutes of this he says to me,

“Mom, who’s team are you on?

Because I’m on Jesus’ team.

Not Satan’s team. His team is naughty.

We’re on Jesus’ team, huh?

Give me five, Mom!

Go Jesus!”

Draper Temple

Yesterday, our little family had the opportunity to tour the new Draper Temple. We drove up there Sunday night to see it all lit up, and Alex kept asking (begging) to go inside. So, we called our Bishop and luckily he had a couple of tickets left for Monday morning. It was so beautiful! And while things were a little crazy with two toddlers and a preschooler, I'm glad we went. Mark said that as he walked into the Celestial Room with Jackson in his arms, Jackson's eyes went up to the beautiful chandelier and ceiling and he exclaimed, "Whoa!" in breathless awe. On the way home, we asked Alex how he felt while he was there, and he said, "I felt the Holy Ghost. And I liked that it is Jesus' house. I liked the pretty white room. And I liked the room where you get married." And Andrew? Well, he just wanted to get down and run amuck. But it was great. If you haven't gone yet, get your tickets. They estimate that 1.1 million have already been reserved and only 150,000 are left. It's worth it.
(We didn't have the foresight, or the free hands, to get our own picture. This is borrowed from the Draper Temple blog site.)

Goodbye to the BEST church calling ever...

I'm so sad... My days of using the twins as an excuse to not do anything are over. Sigh. Funny thing is, they're harder than ever. Oh well. The big change? They're going to nursery. Not willingly, and not without weekly tears. But they're going. And mom just walks right out that door and tells the nursery leaders, "Only get me if the crying lasts for an hour! Ciao!" So different from my first... Any way, I get sidetracked... Let's see here... Oh yes, callings.

Well, my sweet bishop gave me the BEST calling ever while the twins were babies. It only lasted one short, little year, however. I was... drumroll... The building schedule coordinator. Yep. No Sunday duties. Ever. No lessons to prepare. Ever. No organizations to administer. No weeknight activities. Nada. Nothing. All I did was log on to the stake's website once or twice a week and approve pending requests. Seriously the best calling ever! Every new mother needs this calling. If you haven't heard of it, lobby for it! Really!

Anyway, the new calling is already causing some jitters. No, I'm not teaching. No, I have no Wednesday night mutual to go to. I get (or have?) to be the Primary Pianist! Yippee! I actually wanted this calling. Now I'm not so sure, but hey... it can't get much better than that, can it? I'm actually excited. Now, here's hoping I don't mess up "Do As I'm Doing" or something simple like that. goodness.

But, I'm really gonna miss my old calling. Maybe they'll give it back to me next year. One can only hope...

My little cell phone miracle

I'm a believer in modern-day miracles. I've never thought that things just happened by coincidence. Yesterday was no exception. While this was something very small, it still reminded me that our prayers are heard and answered.

Yesterday (Saturday) morning, I left early to drive downtown to meet with my CPA brother to do our taxes. He was going to be in his office on South Temple and 100 East. I was to call him from my cell once I arrived, so that he could let me into his locked up building (since it was Saturday). On my way, I decided to chat with his wife when we were cut-off mid conversation -- my cell phone had died.

Well, since I was driving Mark's car, I didn't have my charger. And while this wasn't the end of the world, it was mighty inconvenient. How was I going to let Danny know that I was there and needed to be let in? Where could I find a public phone (ever noticed that pay phones don't exist anymore?) on a Saturday when all the office buildings downtown are shut down and locked up for the weekend? So, as I drove nearer to his office, I decided to say a little prayer. I prayed for a miracle that my cell phone battery would have just enough charge that I could make one little call to my brother to let him know I was there. I truly believed Heavenly Father would do this for me.

I didn't get that little bit of charge. Battery - dead.

Hmm... what to do now? At this point, I was pulled up to the meter parking outside of his office. I thought I'd check the doors to his building, just to see if they might, marvelously, be unlocked.

Nope - locked.

So, I looked around, and realized that neither of the two bums walking down the deserted street would probably have a phone on them that I could borrow. Bugger. Once again, not a calamity, but highly tiresome.

As I walked back to my car, I noticed the car that was parked in front of mine at the curb. Sitting in the front seat of that car was a lady texting on her cell phone. Could it be? Why hadn't I noticed her before? I approached her, (hopefully I didn't scare her to death) and asked her if I could possibly borrow her phone for a quick call. She was very nice and generous and allowed me to use her phone. I got a hold of my brother and all was well.

In hindsight, I wondered, "What were the odds that there was a car parked there at that time (only one on the whole street besides mine)? And that the car just happened to be occupied?" Truly the chances were slim to none. And yet, there it was.

My little miracle.

My prayer was heard and it was answered. Of course it wasn't answered in the way that I wanted it answered. Lesson learned, again. And of course it was answered through another person. Second lesson learned, again. I'm just so grateful that I have a patient and loving Father in Heaven who does hear my prayers and does answer them, even if it's not in the way I expect it. I know this was such a small thing to the outside reader, but for me it was a sweet, gentle reminder that I am loved, I am heard, and that I am cared for.
